Indications, Surgical Technique & Recovery
1. WHO IT'S FOR
• Stable curve • Good erections
2. HOW IT'S DONE
• Stitches on the longer side • No cutting into erectile tissue
3. RECOVERY
• Swelling for 1–2 weeks • Sex after 4–6 weeks
Penile plication straightens a curved penis by placing permanent stitches on the side opposite the curve, the longer side. It doesn't cut into the erectile tissue.
Who it's for
Men with stable Peyronie's disease or a curve present since birth, whose curve gets in the way of sex, and who have good erections.
What to expect
The penis is straighter, and some length on the stitched side is traded for straightness. You may be able to feel the stitches under the skin. It's an outpatient surgery.
Recovery
Swelling and bruising for a week or two. Most men return to desk work in a few days and to sex in about four to six weeks.
Risks
Some shortening, a remaining curve, stitch discomfort, changes in sensation, and, uncommonly, weaker erections.
