Buried penis repair frees a penis that has become trapped beneath the skin and fat of the lower belly, the scrotum, or scar tissue.

Who it's for

Men with an adult acquired buried penis causing trouble urinating, hygiene problems, infections, pain, or difficulty with sex.

The operation

Depending on the cause: releasing scar tissue, removing the fat pad above the pubic bone (escutcheonectomy), anchoring the skin so the penis stays exposed, reshaping the scrotum, and covering the shaft with healthy skin, sometimes a skin graft taken from the thigh.

Recovery

Many men stay one to a few nights, especially if a skin graft is used. Expect swelling for several weeks. Blood sugar control and stopping smoking make a real difference in healing.

Risks

Wound healing problems, infection, graft not taking fully, and the problem returning, particularly with further weight gain.
