Indications, Surgical Technique & Recovery

1. WHO IT'S FOR

• Want the simplest device • Limited hand dexterity

2. HOW IT'S DONE

• Two bendable rods • No pump

3. RECOVERY

• Swelling for 2 weeks • Use after 4–6 weeks

A malleable penile implant is two bendable rods placed inside the penis. You bend it up for sex and down the rest of the time. There's no pump or reservoir.

Who it's for

Men who want the simplest device, men with limited hand strength or dexterity, and some men with prior pelvic surgery or other reasons an inflatable device is harder to place.

Trade-offs

It's simpler and has fewer parts that can fail, but the penis is always firm, so it's a little harder to conceal than an inflatable implant.

Recovery

Usually outpatient. Swelling and soreness for a couple of weeks, and most men can use it for sex after about four to six weeks.

Risks

Infection, discomfort, and, rarely, erosion.
